It has several well known tourist attractions and cultural centers. The town was founded by and named in honor of Judge William Cooper, whose son was the author James Fenimore Cooper of The Last of the Mohicans fame.

Both travel agents and travel websites have feature romantic getaway packages as specials. Some popular destinations include Hawaii, Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas and Napa Valley. Warm places are usually appealing because people find the beach very romantic. The reason a romantic getaway is so appealing is because the location is secluded in some way, there are no families or children present and the atmosphere is peaceful and relaxing.
